Hospital workers are five times more likely to suffer a workplace violence injury than other professions. Recently, for example, several Pennsylvania nurses that provided aid to a gunshot victim were seriously injured when the driver of the wounded individual struck the nurses with their vehicle.

To help safeguard hospital workers, we be introducing legislation that would establish the Protecting Hospital Workers from Workplace Violence Grant Program.. Grants provided under this program will be used to support interventions aimed at reducing verbal and physical violence against a health care worker in a hospital or a freestanding emergency medical care facility.

Hospital workers are there when we most need them. With these workers at continued physical risk for doing their jobs, we must be there for them. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important legislation to help protect hospital workers so they can perform their critical duties safely.
