With crime rates rising throughout Pennsylvania, we as legislators must do everything in our power to keep our communities safe, including ensuring that our parole system works as intended. Currently, an individual is generally eligible for parole once they have served half of their maximum sentence. However, we need to ensure that individuals with a history of violence are not quickly released back into our communities.

For this reason, I will be introducing legislation that would require that those serving sentences for a second or subsequent violent offense would need to serve 70 percent of their maximum sentence prior to being eligible for parole. This legislation aims to ensure that those who repeatedly commit violent crimes serve an appropriate length of their sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to hold repeat violent offenders accountable and to keep our communities safe.
