A RESOLUTION
1 Expressing condolences and honoring the life and legacy of the
2 Honorable Noah W. Wenger.
3 WHEREAS, The Senate of Pennsylvania mourns the loss of the
4 Honorable Noah W. Wenger, a former member of the Senate and
5 House of Representatives of Pennsylvania, who passed away on
6 February 28, 2024, at the age of 89; and
7 WHEREAS, The son of the late Elam and Hettie Weaver Wenger,
8 Mr. Wenger was born October 20, 1934, in New Holland; and
9 WHEREAS, He moved with his family to a farm in Stevens at the
10 age of nine and eventually shared this same farm with his late
11 wife of 57 years, Barbara Ann Bundrick Wenger; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Wenger was elected to the Pennsylvania House of
13 Representatives, 99th Legislative District, in 1976, and, after
14 serving three terms, he was elected in 1982 to the Pennsylvania
15 Senate, 36th Senatorial District, which included parts of
16 Chester and Lancaster Counties; and
17 WHEREAS, Instrumental in creating this Commonwealth's
18 farmland preservation law, Mr. Wenger served as Senate Majority
1 Caucus Chair, Minority Caucus Secretary, Vice Chair of the
2 Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee and a member of the
3 Local Government, Joint State Government, Legislative Audit
4 Advisory and Chesapeake Bay Commissions; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Wenger retired from the Pennsylvania Senate in
6 2006 and remained active in his community with several
7 organizations; and
8 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the
9 Pennsylvania Poultry Federation, the Reinholds Lions Club and
10 the Stevens Fire Company; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Wenger served on the Board of Directors of
12 Ephrata National Bank and WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, He is survived by his children, Nancy White, Brenda
15 Tondi and Pamela Shields, eight grandchildren, two great-
16 grandchildren and many other family members and friends;
17 therefore be it
18 RESOLVED, That the Senate express condolences for the passing
19 of the Honorable Noah W. Wenger, whose life greatly benefited
20 all those who lived, served and worked with him; and be it
21 further
22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
23 the family of the Honorable Noah W. Wenger.
