A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the month of October 2024 as "National Physical
2 Therapy Month" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, What is now celebrated as "National Physical Therapy
4 Month" began in 1981 as "National Physical Therapy Week" and was
5 celebrated in June; and
6 WHEREAS, In 1992, "National Physical Therapy Week" became
7 "National Physical Therapy Month"; and
8 WHEREAS, "National Physical Therapy Month" has grown in
9 popularity over the years and is now a recognized celebration in
10 the National Health Observances Calendar; and
11 WHEREAS, "National Physical Therapy Month" provides an
12 opportunity for physical therapists and physical therapist
13 assistants nationwide to educate their communities about who
14 physical therapists are and what they can do; and
15 WHEREAS, Physical therapists are experts in restoring and
16 improving the motion that is so crucial to a patient's well-
17 being; and
1 WHEREAS, Physical therapists provide numerous services for
2 their patients that:
3 (1) Improve mobility and quality of life, in many cases
4 without surgery or prescription drugs.
5 (2) Apply their intensive education and clinical
6 experience to restore motion to a patient's life.
7 (3) Teach patients how to prevent or manage their health
8 condition so that they will achieve an improved quality of
9 life;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, Physical therapists can help older adults address
12 the physical challenges of aging, including loss of flexibility,
13 strength and balance; and
14 WHEREAS, Most physical therapy education programs graduate
15 doctors of physical therapy; and
16 WHEREAS, During the month of October, many physical
17 therapists conduct open houses, fitness walks, seminars and
18 other special events; and
19 WHEREAS, This year's theme is focused on falls prevention and
20 encourages seniors to assess their risk of a fall by taking
21 stock of health, home environment and other factors; therefore
22 be it
23 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of October 2024
24 as "National Physical Therapy Month" in Pennsylvania.
