A RESOLUTION
1 Designating October 9, 2024, as "PA Libraries: Powering the
2 Commonwealth Day" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's libraries contribute to and enhance
4 the success of their users; and
5 WHEREAS, Libraries, which promote the free exchange of
6 information and ideas for all, are cornerstones of democracy;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, Libraries promote fiscal responsibility by
9 collectively providing materials and services for the whole
10 community; and
11 WHEREAS, The very act of getting a public library card is a
12 financially literate action; and
13 WHEREAS, Libraries are a resource for all members of the
14 community regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, ability, sexual
15 orientation, gender identity or socioeconomic status, by
16 offering services and educational programming that transform
17 lives and strengthen communities; and
1 WHEREAS, Libraries have long served as trusted and treasured
2 institutions where people of all ages, interests and backgrounds
3 can gather and connect both in-person and online; and
4 WHEREAS, Libraries offer members of the community a welcoming
5 space and opportunities to explore new interests through
6 collections, digital literacy, community engagement and
7 assistance in finding answers; and
8 WHEREAS, Libraries are dedicated to enhancing literacy
9 through providing resources, programs and even individual
10 training, helping people find the tools they need to improve the
11 quality of their life; and
12 WHEREAS, Libraries and librarians work collaboratively with
13 schools and educational organizations, employers, employees, job
14 seekers and government programs and resources; and
15 WHEREAS, Librarians recognize that literacy is power, and
16 libraries provide the fuel for basic literacy, information
17 literacy, civic and social literacy, health literacy and
18 financial literacy through the PA Forward® initiative and Star
19 Library framework; therefore be it
20 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate October 9, 2024, as "PA
21 Libraries: Powering the Commonwealth Day" in Pennsylvania; and
22 be it further
23 RESOLVED, That the Senate acknowledge the immeasurable
24 contributions made by libraries and library workers throughout
25 this Commonwealth.
