A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing October 22, 2024, as "Kappa Alpha Psi Day" in
2 Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Ten Black students at Indiana University in
4 Bloomington, Indiana, founded Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity in
5 1911, making it the second oldest Black Greek letter fraternity;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, Fraternities such as Kappa Alpha Psi embody
8 brotherhood, aiding men in developing into leaders within their
9 communities; and
10 WHEREAS, The fraternity has more than 150,000 members with
11 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters in the United States and
12 international chapters in Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean, the
13 Dominican Republic, Dubai, Germany, Japan, Korea, Nigeria, Saint
14 Croix, Saint Thomas, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the
15 United States Virgin Islands; and
16 WHEREAS, In 1915, Lincoln University in Chester County
17 founded the Epsilon Chapter, making it the first chapter of
18 Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity in this Commonwealth and on the east
1 coast; and
2 WHEREAS, There are 22 collegiate chapters and eight alumni
3 chapters in this Commonwealth; and
4 WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi's motto, "Achievement in Every Field
5 of Human Endeavor," embodies the fraternity and its members'
6 commitment to achieving high standards and uplifting their
7 communities; and
8 WHEREAS, In 1922, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity founded Guide
9 Right, a program in which members of the fraternity mentor
10 youths in their communities, and assist 6,158 youths across 159
11 programs in the United States; and
12 WHEREAS, In addition to Guide Right, the fraternity's
13 programs embody its commitment to philanthropy; and
14 WHEREAS, In 1981, members of the fraternity founded the Kappa
15 Alpha Psi Foundation, a nonprofit that aims to improve the lives
16 of youths in marginalized communities; and
17 WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is the location of Kappa
18 Alpha Psi's international headquarters and the Kappa Alpha Psi
19 Foundation; therefore be it
20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October
21 22, 2024, as "Kappa Alpha Psi Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it
22 further
23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives celebrate 113
24 years of achievement of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and recognize
25 the fraternity's commitment to empowering its members.
