A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the month of October 2024 as "National Disability
2 Employment Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, October 2024 marks the 79th anniversary of "National
4 Disability Employment Awareness Month"; and
5 WHEREAS, There are more than 2.7 million adults, or
6 approximately one in four adult Pennsylvanians, living with a
7 disability; and
8 WHEREAS, More than one-half million Pennsylvanians with
9 disabilities are actively employed and are vital contributors to
10 this Commonwealth's productivity; and
11 WHEREAS, Many Pennsylvanians with disabilities still lack
12 equitable access to employment and the labor force participation
13 rate among Pennsylvanians with disabilities falls significantly
14 below the participation rate of Pennsylvanians without
15 disabilities; and
16 WHEREAS, Employers that welcome the talents of all people,
17 including people with disabilities, are a critical part of
 1 efforts to build an inclusive community and strong economy; and
2 WHEREAS, This year's theme, designated as "Access to Good
3 Jobs for All" by the national Office of Disability Employment
4 Policy, recognizes that good jobs change lives and all people,
5 including those with disabilities, should have the opportunity
6 to find success in employment; and
7 WHEREAS, This October, employers, schools and other community
8 organizations in this Commonwealth are encouraged to advance the
9 message that people with disabilities add value and talent to
10 our workplaces and communities and confirm our commitment to
11 ensuring that people with disabilities have access to good,
12 livable jobs; and
13 WHEREAS, The Commonwealth strives to take steps throughout
14 the year to recruit, hire, retain and advance individuals with
15 disabilities and work to pursue the goals of opportunity, full
16 participation, economic self-sufficiency and independent living
17 for people with disabilities; therefore be it
18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
19 month of October 2024 as "National Disability Employment
20 Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
