In observance of Columbus Day and in recognition of the Sons and Daughters of Italy lodges and Carini I.O.D., we are introducing a resolution recognizing the month of October 2024 as “Italian-American Heritage Month” in Pennsylvania.
An Italian, Christopher Columbus, embarked on what would end up being four trips across the Atlantic Ocean starting in 1492, where he came upon the Americas in his voyages. His journeys began centuries of explorations in the New World and have contributed to the Italian immigration in Pennsylvania. As a result, Americans of Italian descent have become one of the Commonwealth’s most influential ethnic groups, with the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Sons and Daughters of Italy, the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, State Lodge of Pennsylvania, and Carini I.O.D. working hard for many decades to uphold the positive image of Italian heritage.
Please join us in celebrating Italian-American Heritage Month.
