A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the month of September 2024 as "Emergency
2 Preparedness Month" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Each year, the President of the United States
4 proclaims September as "National Emergency Preparedness Month"
5 to stress the importance of strengthening the security and
6 resiliency of the nation through systematic preparation for the
7 full range of hazards threatening the United States, including
8 natural disasters, cyber attacks, pandemic disease and acts of
9 terrorism; and
10 WHEREAS, During "Emergency Preparedness Month," residents and
11 the townships, boroughs, cities and counties in which they live
12 are encouraged to take time to ensure that they are prepared for
13 any disaster, natural or manmade; and
14 WHEREAS, Each year, in communities large and small, victims
15 of disasters and emergencies in this Commonwealth and across the
16 United States turn to neighbors, familiar and new, for help
17 through emergency services, including: the American Red Cross,
1 the Salvation Army, local fire departments, police departments,
2 ambulance and paramedic services, military bases, hospitals,
3 urban search and rescue units, wilderness search and rescue
4 groups, canine rescue units, dive teams, county 911 coordinators
5 and staff, county hazardous materials teams, local emergency
6 management coordinators and staff, county emergency management
7 coordinators and staff, medevac agencies, the Pennsylvania State
8 Police, Civil Air Patrols, ham radio operators, National Guard
9 personnel, local fire police and many other paid staff and
10 volunteers with various governmental and nonprofit agencies and
11 other groups; and
12 WHEREAS, The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the
13 Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency encourage individuals
14 to have emergency preparedness kits on hand should disaster
15 strike and provide information through their websites,
16 www.ready.gov and www.readypa.org, to educate residents on how
17 to prepare for emergencies and disasters; and
18 WHEREAS, Designating the month of September 2024 as
19 "Emergency Preparedness Month" can help empower Commonwealth
20 residents by providing information about the risks all residents
21 can face and the concrete actions they can take to protect
22 themselves, their families, their communities, this Commonwealth
23 and our country; therefore be it
24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
25 month of September 2024 as "Emergency Preparedness Month" in
26 Pennsylvania and extend its thanks to the staff and volunteers
27 who serve this Commonwealth and our nation through emergency
28 preparedness efforts to assist and protect residents during any
29 and all emergencies and disasters, natural or manmade; and be it
30 further

1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all
2 residents to observe September as "Emergency Preparedness Month"
3 in Pennsylvania and inform themselves by visiting the
4 www.ready.gov and www.readypa.org websites and through other
5 resources on how they can become fully prepared for any and all
6 emergencies.
