In the near future, we will introduce a resolution declaring September 2024 as "Prostate Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
Every day, more than 25 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Pennsylvania, and 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in his lifetime. While these are alarming figures, the good news is that when prostate cancer is detected early and confined to just the prostate or regional lymph nodes, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100%.
It is important to raise awareness about the prevalence of this cancer in men, and encourage a baseline screening in their forties whether or not a family history is present.
I encourage my colleagues to participate in events to raise awareness for prostate cancer including 5Ks, golf outings, seminars, and to take notice of the blue lights around the Capitol on September 9th And 10th as a reminder to get tested!
I hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this impactful resolution.
