In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to allow an individual to add emergency contacts and medical conditions to their driving record. The legislation would provide law enforcement access to the emergency contacts and medical conditions when conducting their official duties.

Vehicle stops are some of the most frequent interactions between law enforcement officers and our constituents. It’s critical that we use all our legislative resources to mitigate any barriers to communication between police and motorists in the Commonwealth. Providing law enforcement with the proper notification of an individual’s emergency contacts and medical conditions such as autism spectrum disorder or deafness or hearing impairment, will alleviate any breakdown in communication and unnecessary tension, thus creating safer conditions for all involved parties.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
