Substance use disorder impacts our friends, families, neighbors and unfortunately often results in tragedy. According to the preliminary drug overdose data, 4,717 Pennsylvanians lost their lives in 2023 and 1,270 thus far in 2024. These staggering statistics demonstrate the need for education, prevention and efforts to support recovery.
As part of our efforts to support those individuals on their path to recovery and raise awareness, we are introducing a resolution to designate September 2024 as “National Recovery Month” in Pennsylvania.
Since 1989 National Recovery Month has been observed in the month of September to promote and support evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, to recognize those in recovery and the dedicated service providers who make recovery possible for so many.
