More than 374,000 Taiwanese individuals reside in the United States, sharing Taiwanese culture with their communities.  Taiwan, similar to Pennsylvania, is a community of many influences. Taiwan’s diverse ethnic groups enrich its culture and its multicultural history is reflected in its dialects, religions, education and artistic expressions. Pennsylvania and Taiwan have developed an enduring and mutually beneficial partnership that facilitates economic, scientific, educational, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

I am introducing a resolution recognizing October 10, 2024, as “National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan)” in Pennsylvania. This is a day recognized in Taiwan and abroad as a celebration of its achievements in building a better society and strengthening its freedom, democracy, global competitiveness, and economic stability, while continuing to preserve cross-strait peace and stability.

Foreign visitors and dignitaries have traditionally been invited to join the Taiwanese in their celebrations. In that spirit, I hope you will join me in recognizing October 10, 2024, as “National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan)” in Pennsylvania.
