In the near future I will be introducing a Resolution to recognize October 2024 as Energy Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.
Since 1991, October has been recognized as Energy Awareness Month across the United States. This nationwide effort, first recognized by President George H.W. Bush, highlights how essential energy conservation is in protecting the environment while also growing our economy.
Pennsylvania is the second largest net supplier of total energy when compared to any other state as of 2022. In addition, we are the 2nd largest natural gas producer, the 3rd largest coal producing state, and 2nd in electricity generation from nuclear power. We are also one of the largest solar employers in the nation with 496 solar businesses, employing 4,288 individuals.
The United States and Pennsylvania have made great strides in developing energy efficient products due to the advancements in technology and science. Pennsylvanians have continuously made informed purchases and decisions when it comes to buying and using energy efficient products while also making conscious decisions to preserve our natural resources.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this important Resolution to bring awareness to all individuals residing in this Commonwealth about the benefits from energy efficient measures, renewables, and other green initiatives.
