A RESOLUTION
1 Designating November 15, 2024, as "Articles of the Confederation
2 Day" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, For much of the 18th century many of the colonies
4 appreciated the wealth and protection afforded to them by the
5 British monarchy; and
6 WHEREAS, As the British monarchy tried to assert greater
7 control over the colonies, turbulent times emerged, resulting in
8 significant colonial defiance; and
9 WHEREAS, This resistance gave birth to the American
10 Revolutionary period; and
11 WHEREAS, Patriots of the American Revolution organized the
12 Continental Congress; and
13 WHEREAS, The delegates representing the colonies met between
14 1774 and 1781 to debate the colonial rights and designed an
15 assembly to unify the American colonies; and
16 WHEREAS, The Continental Congress penned the Declaration of
17 Independence on July 4, 1776, and the Articles of Confederation
18 on November 15, 1777; and
1 WHEREAS, These proclamations of sovereignty and independence
2 provided the colonies with temporary governance until the
3 adoption of the United States Constitution in 1787; therefore be
4 it
5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
6 November 15, 2024, as "Articles of Confederation Day" in
7 Pennsylvania; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That this Commonwealth recognize that the adoption
9 of the Articles of Confederation provided the American colonies
10 with our country's early framework of governance and the
11 platform for self-governance; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That on November 15, 2027, this Commonwealth
13 celebrates the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Articles
14 of Confederation.
