AN ACT
1 Designating a bridge, identified as Bridge Key 52786, carrying
2 Pennsylvania Route 213 over the Neshaminy Creek in Lower
3 Southampton Township, Bucks County, as the Ensign Sarah
4 Mitchell Memorial Bridge.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Ensign Sarah Mitchell Memorial Bridge.
8 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
9 follows:
10 (1) Sarah Joy Mitchell was born in Meadowbrook to John
11 and Betsy McClay Mitchell.
12 (2) A lifelong resident of Oakford, Ensign Mitchell was
13 a 2013 graduate of Neshaminy High School, where she
14 participated in field hockey, basketball and track and field.
15 (3) Ensign Mitchell furthered her education at the
16 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where
17 she served as a member of the Naval Reserve Officers Training
18 Corps of Cadets and earned a degree in 2017.
19 (4) Ensign Mitchell was a member of Saint Stephen's
1 Lutheran Church in Feasterville.
2 (5) Ensign Mitchell served in the United States Navy
3 with honor, pride, loyalty and distinction.
4 (6) Ensign Mitchell made the greatest of all sacrifices
5 in defense of the cause of freedom, passing away in the line
6 of duty at 23 years of age on July 8, 2018.
7 (b) Designation.--The bridge, identified as Bridge Key
8 52786, carrying Pennsylvania Route 213 over the Neshaminy Creek
9 in Lower Southampton Township, Bucks County, is designated the
10 Ensign Sarah Mitchell Memorial Bridge.
11 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
12 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
13 traffic in both directions on the bridge.
14 Section 2. Effective date.
15 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
