The Department of Education released its updated education spending numbers showing continued record growth for the state’s public education funding.  In the 2022-2023 school year, school district spending soared to over $36B.

As lawmakers in Harrisburg continue to increase their financial investment in education spending in Pennsylvania each year, it is important to ensure taxpayer’s hard-earned money is spent wisely. I plan to introduce legislation soon that will ensure our school districts are accountable and transparent about their financial health.

The School District Financial Transparency Act will require local school districts to provide residents with critical district financial information including how much the district spends per-pupil and how much the district has in reserve funds.

Now more than ever, as families battle record inflation and stagnant wages, we owe it to the taxpayers of Pennsylvania to let them know where this significant portion of their tax dollars is spent.
