Since 2011, World Rhino Day is celebrated internationally on September 22nd.

World Rhino Day is a day of awareness for all five rhino species and the work being done to save them from extinction.

This day provides the opportunity for organizations, zoos, and members of the public to celebrate rhinos and the work being done to save the species.

Poaching is the greatest threat to rhinos. The price per ounce of rhino horn is worth more than gold, diamonds, and elephant ivory.

Rhino horn is made of keratin, the same thing our fingernails are made of.

Poaching is most often carried out by terrorist organizations. The horns are sold for $11,000 per ounce on the black market.

The illegal wildlife trade is approximately a $20 billion per year business.

World Rhino Day shines a light on a species that has roamed the earth for millions of years and hopefully for a million more.
