A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing September 12, 2024, as "National Police Woman Day"
2 in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, "National Police Woman Day" is observed annually on
4 September 12 to honor the exceptional contributions of women in
5 law enforcement; and
6 WHEREAS, Female police officers consistently demonstrate
7 unwavering dedication, courage and strength, breaking barriers
8 and shattering stereotypes throughout history; and
9 WHEREAS, These remarkable women inspire girls and women
10 everywhere, encouraging them to believe in their potential to
11 make a significant impact and become leaders in their
12 communities; and
13 WHEREAS, We acknowledge the sacrifices made by women in
14 uniform who put their lives on the line daily to protect our
15 communities; and
16 WHEREAS, Women bring unique perspectives and skills that
17 significantly benefit police departments; and
1 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Police was the nation's first
2 state police agency to include female troopers in its regular
3 command structure; and
4 WHEREAS, Fourteen women made history as the first female
5 state troopers after graduating from the Pennsylvania State
6 Police Academy in 1972 and since then, more than 300 women have
7 enlisted; and
8 WHEREAS, The story of women in law enforcement continues to
9 evolve as police departments recognize that female officers
10 bring particular gifts and abilities to the profession; and
11 WHEREAS, There is increasing recognition of the importance of
12 improving the representation and experiences of women in
13 policing, especially with regard to enhancing public safety
14 outcomes; and
15 WHEREAS, Women make up 12% of the law enforcement officers in
16 the country and 3% of police leadership; and
17 WHEREAS, Enhancing the diversity of police agencies to better
18 reflect the communities they serve is crucial for fostering
19 community trust; and
20 WHEREAS, We aspire to a future where law enforcement bodies
21 have even stronger female representation; and
22 WHEREAS, "National Police Woman Day" aims to encourage more
23 women to join the service; and
24 WHEREAS, On "National Police Woman Day," we salute the
25 dedicated women who serve and keep our communities safe every
26 day; therefore be it
27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
28 September 12, 2024, as "National Police Woman Day" in
29 Pennsylvania; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express gratitude

1 to the brave women in law enforcement, recognizing their vital
2 role in safeguarding our communities and paving the way for
3 future generations.
