Balancing family life and work is a priority and a challenge for many Pennsylvanians. Many new parents face the especially difficult task of managing a career while also caring for the needs of their infant child. Breastfeeding can be an important aspect of caring for a baby, and it is highly encouraged for benefits to both the child and nursing parent. However, in the workplace, nursing parents often feel too stressed or overwhelmed to breastfeed. While federal standards require that an employer provide accommodations for nursing parents, these spaces are often inadequate and leave employees feeling unsupported.

That is why I am introducing legislation to codify requirements for Nursing Parents Rooms in every Pennsylvania state building. My bill will require all state buildings to adequately accommodate both employees and the public by offering a Nursing Parents Room exclusively for parents to use to breastfeed a child or express breast milk.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to support Pennsylvania’s parents with nursing accommodations in our state buildings. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
