Every two seconds there is a person in the United States in need of blood or platelets. Millions of Americans, like individuals being treated for cancer, rely on blood transfusions for treatment. The only way to ensure that there is adequate supply of blood and platelets is through volunteer donation. However, according to the American Red Cross, only 3% of eligible people donate blood each year.

My legislation would encourage blood donations through recognizing June 14, 2024, as World Blood Donor Day in Pennsylvania. The World Health Organization recognizes this day globally to increase awareness about the need for blood donation worldwide. It is critical that the Pennsylvania General Assembly recognizes this day and the need for more blood donors in the Commonwealth.

Please join me in recognizing World Blood Donor Day and encouraging more blood donations in Pennsylvania.
