A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the City of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Steelers
2 for being selected as the host of the 2026 National Football
3 League Draft.
4 WHEREAS, The National Football League (NFL) recently
5 confirmed that Pittsburgh has been selected to host one of the
6 most anticipated sporting events of the year: the 2026 NFL
7 Draft; and
8 WHEREAS, As the birthplace of football, Pittsburgh has a rich
9 sports legacy that will be on full display as millions of fans
10 are welcomed to the City of Champions; and
11 WHEREAS, The NFL Draft marks a full circle moment for the
12 city and its namesake team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the
13 beginning of what would become the first NFL Draft took place in
14 1936 at the first player selections meeting at the Fort Pitt
15 Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh; and
16 WHEREAS, Ironically, this announcement also comes as the
17 Pittsburgh Steelers celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1974
18 draft class, considered the greatest in league history, when the
 1 Steelers drafted four future Pro Football Hall of Famers; and
2 WHEREAS, The NFL Draft has more than 50 million viewers
3 worldwide, which will spotlight the city as a hub of
4 entertainment and sports venues as well as put on global display
5 its vibrant arts and culture districts; and
6 WHEREAS, Throughout the three-day event, Pittsburgh is
7 hosting a slate of draft activities, including a variety of
8 community events, a concert series and an NFL Draft Experience -
9 the NFL's ultimate fan festival; therefore be it
10 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the City of Pittsburgh
11 and the Pittsburgh Steelers for being selected as the host of
12 the 2026 National Football League Draft.
