In the near future, I will be introducing legislation designating a bridge in Middletown Township, Bucks County, as the Lance Corporal John F. Muffler Memorial Bridge.
John Frederick Muffler was born on December 13th, 1963, in Elkins Park, Montgomery County. He graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1981 while being a drummer in the Neshaminy Marching Band. John Muffler served in the United States Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal. In the early morning hours of October 23rd, 1983, a truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security perimeter of the United States Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The following explosion killed 241 United States military personnel and left 80 seriously wounded. Lance Corporal John F. Muffler was killed in the terrorist attack on the United States Marine Corps barracks in Beirut.
In his memory, his mother supported his service and ultimate sacrifice by promoting the establishment of the Beirut Memorial in Philadelphia. In addition, an annual award inspired by John F. Muffler is presented to a drummer in the Neshaminy Band.
I hope you will consider sponsoring this legislation and join me in honoring the service and sacrifice of Lance Corporal John F. Muffler.
