A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the month of June 2024 as "National Safety Month" in
2 Pennsylvania in recognition that preventing injuries and
3 deaths requires the cooperation of all levels of government,
4 employers and the general public.
5 WHEREAS, The rates of unintentional injuries and deaths in
6 the United States remain at unacceptable levels; and
7 WHEREAS, Preparing for emergencies, mitigating falls,
8 preventing heat-related illness and recognizing hazards remain
9 critical to preventing injuries and deaths in the United States;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, The cost of unintentional injuries to workers and
12 their employers exceeds $167 billion each year and causes great
13 suffering among individuals and their families; and
14 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania residents and all workers deserve to
15 live in communities that promote safe and healthy living; and
16 WHEREAS, Preventing unintentional injuries and deaths
17 requires the cooperation of all levels of government, employers
18 and the general public; and
1 WHEREAS, The National Safety Council, founded in 1913, was
2 congressionally chartered in 1953 to lead this nation in injury
3 prevention through safety and health information, education,
4 training and advocacy in the United States; and
5 WHEREAS, The National Safety Council works to promote
6 policies, practices and procedures leading to increased safety,
7 protection and health in business and industry, in schools and
8 colleges, on roads and highways and in homes and communities;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, The National Safety Council in 2024 will provide
11 this nation with a monthlong public education campaign; and
12 WHEREAS, The summer season is a time of increased rates of
13 unintentional injuries and deaths, and it is an appropriate time
14 to focus attention on injury risks and prevention; therefore be
15 it
16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
17 month of June 2024 as "National Safety Month" in Pennsylvania,
18 in recognition that preventing injuries and deaths requires the
19 cooperation of all levels of government, employers and the
20 general public; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the
22 residents and businesses of this Commonwealth to observe
23 "National Safety Month" by practicing safe and healthy behaviors
24 in all aspects of their lives.
