A RESOLUTION
1 Designating July 19, 2024, as "Parks and Recreation
2 Professionals Day" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation are an integral part of
4 communities throughout this country, including this
5 Commonwealth; and
6 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation promote health and wellness,
7 improving the physical and mental health of people who live near
8 parks; and
9 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation promote time spent in nature,
10 which positively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive
11 performance and well-being and alleviating illnesses such as
12 depression, attention deficit disorders and Alzheimer's; and
13 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation encourage physical activities
14 by providing space for popular sports, hiking trails, swimming
15 pools and many other activities designed to promote active
16 lifestyles; and
17 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation programs are a leading provider
 1 of healthy meals, nutrition services and education; and
2 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation programming and education
3 activities such as out-of-school time programming, youth sports
4 and environmental education are critical to childhood
5 development; and
6 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation programs increase a community's
7 economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion
8 of the local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and
9 retention of businesses and crime reduction; and
10 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation are fundamental to the
11 environmental well-being of our community; and
12 WHEREAS, Parks and recreation are an essential and adaptable
13 infrastructure that make our communities resilient in the face
14 of natural disasters and climate change; and
15 WHEREAS, Our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the
16 ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for
17 children and adults to connect with nature and recreate
18 outdoors; and
19 WHEREAS, The parks and recreation benefits would be
20 impossible without the hardworking professionals who work
21 tirelessly behind the scenes to provide the high-quality
22 programs and facilities we desire and expect in our parks and
23 public spaces; and
24 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth supports the skilled work of parks
25 and recreation professionals to strengthen community
26 connections, connect people with nature and provide
27 environmental sustainability; and
28 WHEREAS, The national celebration celebrating parks and
29 recreation professionals takes place during "National Park and
30 Recreation Month"; therefore be it

1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate July
2 19, 2024, as "Parks and Recreation Professionals Day" in
3 Pennsylvania.
