AN ACT
1 Designating a bridge, identified as Bridge Key 7027, in
2 Middletown Township, Bucks County, as the Lance Corporal John
3 F. Muffler Memorial Bridge.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Lance Corporal John F. Muffler Memorial Bridge.
7 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
8 follows:
9 (1) John Frederick Muffler was born December 13, 1963,
10 in Elkins Park, Montgomery County.
11 (2) Lance Corporal Muffler graduated from Neshaminy High
12 School in 1981 and was a dedicated drummer in the Neshaminy
13 Marching Band.
14 (3) He served in the United States Marine Corps as a
15 Lance Corporal.
16 (4) Lance Corporal Muffler was killed in the terrorist
17 bombing of the United States Marine barracks.
18 (5) In the early morning hours of October 23, 1983, a
19 truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security
 1 perimeter of the United States Marine Corps barracks in
2 Beirut, Lebanon.
3 (6) In the explosion that followed, 241 United States
4 military personnel were killed and 80 seriously wounded.
5 (7) Lance Corporal Muffler's mother supported the memory
6 of his service and sacrifice to our country by promoting the
7 establishment of the Beirut Memorial in Philadelphia.
8 (8) An annual award, inspired by John F. Muffler, is
9 presented to a drummer in the Neshaminy Band.
10 (b) Designation.--The bridge, identified as Bridge Key 7027,
11 in Middletown Township, Bucks County, is designated as the Lance
12 Corporal John F. Muffler Memorial Bridge.
13 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
14 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
15 traffic in both directions on the bridge.
16 Section 2. Effective date.
17 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
