AN ACT
1 Designating the bridge, identified as Bridge Key 5059, carrying
2 State Route 2021 over Mineral Springs Creek in the City of
3 Reading, Berks County, as the PFC Lawrence J. Deisher
4 Memorial Bridge.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. PFC Lawrence J. Deisher Memorial Bridge.
8 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
9 follows:
10 (1) Private First Class Lawrence J. Deisher was born
11 July 9, 1947, and was raised in Reading.
12 (2) PFC Deisher served in the United States Army during
13 the Vietnam War and was a distinguished member of the 2nd
14 Battalion, 502nd Infantry Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
15 (3) On June 9, 1966, PFC Deisher made the ultimate
16 sacrifice when he fearlessly engaged with the enemy.
17 (4) On that day, PFC Deisher displayed unparalleled
18 bravery and tactical prowess, which resulted in the
19 neutralization of the imminent threat.
 1 (5) PFC Deisher's actions on that day earned him the
2 Silver Star, a testament to his valor and selflessness.
3 (6) PFC Deisher not only met but surpassed the stringent
4 criteria required to join the esteemed 101st Airborne
5 Division, showcasing exceptional skill, unwavering commitment
6 and unparalleled courage.
7 (7) PFC Deisher's life, heroism and sacrifice exemplify
8 the highest standards of service and serve as a beacon of
9 inspiration for many.
10 (b) Designation.--The bridge, identified as Bridge Key 5059,
11 carrying State Route 2021 over Mineral Springs Creek in the City
12 of Reading, Berks County, is designated as the PFC Lawrence J.
13 Deisher Memorial Bridge.
14 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
15 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
16 traffic in both directions of the bridge.
17 Section 2. Effective date.
18 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
