In the near future, I will be introducing legislation designating a bridge carrying Pennsylvania Route 997 over Conodoguinet Creek in Letterkenny Township, Franklin County, as the Pvt. Clyde C. McVitty Memorial Bridge.
Clyde C. McVitty was born on January 29th, 1923, in Amberson. He attended grammar school in the Chambersburg School District. Pvt. McVitty enlisted in the United States Army on February 13th, 1943, and was trained at Camp Wheeler and Fort Benning, Georgia. He served with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 82nd Airborne Division. Pvt. McVitty left for overseas duty in July of 1943, initially being stationed in Africa, and later being moved to Anzio in Italy. Clyde C. McVitty was killed in action on February 9th, 1944, on the Anzio beach head in Italy.
I hope you will consider sponsoring this legislation and join me in honoring Pvt. Clyde C. McVitty.
