In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to extend the range of ATVs operated as emergency vehicles.

In many rural areas, fire departments, police departments, and emergency medical service agencies rely on the use of ATVs and UTVs to provide service to citizens. Under current law, these vehicles are restricted to operate within 2 miles of their home location primarily for off-roadway use and only being operated incidentally on a roadway. Concerns have been expressed by constituents that critical service in rural areas is negatively affected by this arbitrary restriction.

To that end, my legislation increases the restricted area from 2 miles to 15 miles in rural counties of the fourth through eighth class in the Commonwealth. The restricted area of 2 miles would remain in more populated counties of the first through third class.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to help rural fire departments, police departments, and emergency medical service agencies effectively serve their communities.
