A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the week of June 17 through 21, 2024, as
2 "Apprenticeship Week" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, The year 2024 marks the 87th anniversary of the
4 National Apprenticeship Act and the 63rd anniversary of The
5 Apprenticeship and Training Act in Pennsylvania; and
6 WHEREAS, The middle class built America and unions built the
7 middle class; and
8 WHEREAS, Registered apprenticeship programs across our
9 country have produced some of the best trained workers in the
10 world; and
11 WHEREAS, Registered apprenticeship programs offer workers
12 direct pathways to good paying jobs with dignity and respect;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, Registered apprenticeship programs enable employers
15 to develop and train the future workforce while offering career
16 seekers affordable paths to secure high paying jobs; and
1 WHEREAS, Registered apprenticeship programs not only
2 strengthen our workforce today, they give workers the skills
3 needed for industries of the future, whether it is modernizing
4 our infrastructure and building clean energy technologies or
5 addressing cybersecurity threats; and
6 WHEREAS, Registered apprenticeships continue to serve a vital
7 role in the occupational development of Pennsylvanians every
8 year, helping employers build a more diverse workforce while
9 empowering workers with the resources they need to thrive,
10 including on-the-job learning experience, job-related
11 instruction with a mentor and a clear pathway to a good paying
12 job; and
13 WHEREAS, During 2023, 21,980 registered apprentices practiced
14 their trade in Pennsylvania; and
15 WHEREAS, In 2023, Pennsylvania supported 880 unique program
16 sponsors and 1,557 active occupation-specific apprenticeship
17 programs; and
18 WHEREAS, According to the Department of Labor and Industry,
19 approximately 94% of apprentices who complete their
20 apprenticeship retain employment with an average annual salary
21 of $70,000; and
22 WHEREAS, The Commonwealth recognizes that apprenticeship, a
23 proven training model, can develop our workforce and build a
24 path into good, quality jobs in order to address our
25 Commonwealth's and nation's pressing workforce challenges;
26 therefore be it
27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
28 week of June 17 through 21, 2024, as "Apprenticeship Week" in
29 Pennsylvania.
