AN ACT
1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2 act "An act relating to the public school system, including
3 certain provisions applicable as well to private and
4 parochial schools; amending, revising, consolidating and
5 changing the laws relating thereto," in duties and powers of
6 boards of school directors, providing for admission fees for
7 school-sponsored activities.
8 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9 hereby enacts as follows:
10 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
11 as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
12 section to read:
13 Section 511.1. Admission Fees for School-Sponsored
14 Activities.--(a) When a fee is charged for admission to a <--
15 school-sponsored activity, United States currency shall be
16 accepted as a form of payment for admission on the date of the
17 activity.
18 (b) Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit a
19 school-sponsored activity from accepting alternative payment
20 methods in addition to United States currency for admission to
1 the school-sponsored activity. SCHOOL ENTITY, NONPUBLIC SCHOOL <--
2 OR ASSOCIATION COLLECTS A FEE FOR ADMISSION TO A SCHOOL-
3 SPONSORED ACTIVITY, CASH MUST BE ACCEPTED AS A FORM OF PAYMENT
4 FOR ADMISSION.
5 (B) IN ADDITION TO ACCEPTING CASH AS PAYMENT FOR ADMISSION,
6 A SCHOOL ENTITY, NONPUBLIC SCHOOL OR ASSOCIATION MAY ACCEPT
7 OTHER PAYMENT METHODS FOR ADMISSION TO THE SCHOOL-SPONSORED
8 ACTIVITY.
9 (C) A SCHOOL ENTITY, NONPUBLIC SCHOOL OR ASSOCIATION MAY
10 REFUSE TO ACCEPT PAYMENT FOR ADMISSION THAT IS IN A DENOMINATION
11 THAT SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEEDS THE AMOUNT OF THE FEE IN SUBSECTION
12 (A).
13 (c) (D) As used in this section, the following words and <--
14 phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this subsection
15 unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:
16 "ASSOCIATION" SHALL MEAN THE PENNSYLVANIA INTERSCHOLASTIC <--
17 ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
18 "CASH" SHALL MEAN ALL COINS AND CURRENCIES RECOGNIZED AS
19 LEGAL TENDER UNDER 31 U.S.C. § 5103 (RELATING TO TENDER).
20 "Interscholastic athletic activity" shall mean an athletic <--
21 contest CONTESTS or competitions conducted between or among <--
22 school entities or nonpublic school entities SCHOOLS SITUATED in <--
23 this Commonwealth.
24 "NONPUBLIC SCHOOL" SHALL MEAN A NONPROFIT SCHOOL, OTHER THAN <--
25 A PUBLIC SCHOOL IN THIS COMMONWEALTH, WHEREIN A RESIDENT OF THIS
26 COMMONWEALTH MAY LEGALLY FULFILL THE COMPULSORY SCHOOL
27 ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS ACT AND WHICH MEETS THE
28 APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS OF TITLE VI OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF
29 1964 (PUBLIC LAW 88-352, 42 U.S.C. § 2000 ET SEQ.).
30 "School entity" shall mean a school district, intermediate

1 unit, area career and technical school, charter school, cyber
2 charter school or regional charter school.
3 "School-sponsored activity" shall mean an assembly, field
4 trip, class trip, graduation ceremony, interscholastic athletic
5 activity, extracurricular activity, club, group, team or any
6 activity sponsored, held or approved by a school entity within <--
7 its buildings, grounds or other location not owned or operated
8 by the school entity.
9 "United States currency" shall mean the coin and paper money
10 of the United States. OR NONPUBLIC SCHOOL. <--
11 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
