A RESOLUTION
1 Designating May 20, 2024, as "Rescue Dog Day" in Pennsylvania.
2 WHEREAS, "National Rescue Dog Day" was established in 2018 to
3 raise awareness for dogs in shelters and rescue kennels; and
4 WHEREAS, There were more than 14,000 sheltering organizations
5 operating in the United States in 2023; and
6 WHEREAS, Approximately 2 million dogs are adopted from
7 shelters in the United States each year; and
8 WHEREAS, More than 14,000 dogs were adopted from shelters in
9 this Commonwealth in 2023; and
10 WHEREAS, Shelters are struggling to handle increased
11 populations of dogs; and
12 WHEREAS, "National Rescue Dog Day" promotes the adoption of
13 dogs from shelters and the spaying and neutering of pets to
14 reduce shelter populations; and
15 WHEREAS, "National Rescue Dog Day" promotes the proper care
16 and treatment of pets to prevent increases in shelter intake and
17 ensure that rescue dogs live healthy lives; and
1 WHEREAS, Adopting dogs from a shelter can give them a second
2 chance at a "forever home"; therefore be it
3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 20,
4 2024, as "Rescue Dog Day" in Pennsylvania.
