A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the week of August 5 through 9, 2024, as "National
2 Conference of State Legislatures Week" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)
4 was founded in 1975 and has evolved during the past half-century
5 to become the premier organization solely dedicated to serving
6 state and territorial legislators and legislative staff; and
7 WHEREAS, NCSL was created from the merger of three
8 organizations that served or represented state legislatures and
9 that shared the belief that legislative service is one of
10 democracy's worthiest pursuits; and
11 WHEREAS, NCSL is a bipartisan organization with three
12 objectives:
13 (1) to advance the effectiveness, independence and
14 integrity of state legislatures;
15 (2) to foster interstate communication and cooperation;
16 and
17 (3) to ensure states a strong, cohesive voice in the
 1 Federal system;
2 and
3 WHEREAS, Our nation's state legislatures are America's
4 laboratories of democracy and have continually shown that they
5 are the bodies to tackle emerging challenges; and
6 WHEREAS, State legislatures are where people from very
7 different backgrounds, representing very different communities,
8 can come together and find common ground; and
9 WHEREAS, NCSL has facilitated the exchange of ideas, provided
10 critical research and information and encouraged a rigorous
11 review of complex issues confronting our communities, states and
12 nation; and
13 WHEREAS, NCSL strives to strengthen the bonds between
14 America's state legislatures and the international community;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, The 2024 NCSL Legislative Summit in Louisville,
17 Kentucky, from August 5 through 7, 2024, marks the beginning of
18 NCSL's semicentennial celebration; therefore be it
19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
20 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania designate the week of August 5
21 through 9, 2024, as "National Conference of State Legislatures
22 Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
24 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognize and commend NCSL for its
25 superb leadership and commitment to the legislative institution;
26 and be it further
27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
28 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania congratulate NCSL on its 50th
29 anniversary in 2025 and observe NCSL's semicentennial
30 celebration, beginning in August 2024; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
2 the National Conference of State Legislatures.
