A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the month of April 2024 as "National Volunteer
2 Month" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, AmeriCorps estimates that in 2019, nearly 78 million
4 Americans volunteered and collectively served 5.8 billion hours
5 with an economic value of $147 billion; and
6 WHEREAS, Volunteerism can help unemployed people find jobs;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, Volunteerism can provide career experience and teach
9 valuable skills; and
10 WHEREAS, Volunteerism builds social ties by connecting people
11 to others, establishing friendships and increasing social and
12 relationship skills; and
13 WHEREAS, Volunteerism can boost self-confidence and combat
14 depression; and
15 WHEREAS, Volunteerism has been associated with reduced
16 mortality; and
17 WHEREAS, Volunteerism can be done anywhere, from out in the
1 community to working at home; and
2 WHEREAS, Volunteerism can provide a sense of fulfillment and
3 purpose in life; and
4 WHEREAS, Volunteerism builds community resilience in the face
5 of natural disasters and other tests of collective strength; and
6 WHEREAS, Volunteers are active in every major shock and
7 stress that communities experience, from earthquakes and
8 flooding to climate change and local conflicts; and
9 WHEREAS, Volunteers are critical to rural communities, from
10 running sports events and community festivals to providing
11 essential and life-preserving services as firefighters and
12 paramedics; therefore be it
13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
14 month of April 2024 as "National Volunteer Month" in
15 Pennsylvania; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all
17 residents of this Commonwealth to find ways to make a difference
18 in their communities, no matter how big or small the effort,
19 because someone will be grateful that they were lent a helping
20 hand.
