Subject:          National Epilepsy Awareness Month (November 2024)

Epilepsy is a neurological condition sometimes referred to as a seizure disorder and is characterized by recurring seizures. Patients with seizures experience disruptions of the brain’s normal electrical pattern by sudden and synchronized bursts of electrical energy that may affect their consciousness, movements, or sensations. Approximately 50,000 Americans die each year from epilepsy-related causes, and as such, it is imperative that we do everything we can to bring awareness to this often misunderstood condition.

“National Epilepsy Awareness Month” intends to educate and provide a platform that raises awareness of epilepsy and its causes, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options. Epilepsy can impact anyone at any age. Therefore, I plan to introduce a resolution designating November 2024 as “National Epilepsy Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.

As stewards of public health, it is my hope that you will join me in this collective effort to further promote and protect the health and well-being of all Pennsylvanians. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
