A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the month of February 2024 as "Turner Syndrome
2 Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Turner syndrome is a noninheritable chromosomal
4 disorder that affects 1 in 2,000 female births; and
5 WHEREAS, A complete cardiac screening is an important
6 diagnostic tool to ensure early diagnosis in girls and women;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, Risk for acute aortic dissection is increased by
9 more than a hundredfold in young and middle-aged women with
10 Turner syndrome; and
11 WHEREAS, Early diagnosis facilitates prevention or
12 remediation of growth failure, hearing problems and learning
13 difficulties; and
14 WHEREAS, Individuals with Turner syndrome have an increased
15 risk of a nonverbal learning disorder that can cause problems in
16 mathematics, visual-spatial skills, executive function skills
17 and job retention; and
1 WHEREAS, With the help of medical specialists and a good
2 social support system, females with Turner syndrome can live a
3 long and healthy life; and
4 WHEREAS, The designation of "Turner Syndrome Awareness Month"
5 provides the opportunity to share experience and information and
6 raise public awareness about Turner syndrome; therefore be it
7 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of February
8 2024 as "Turner Syndrome Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
