AN ACT
1 Designating the roundabout on CONNECTING U.S. ROUTE 209 AND <--
2 Pleasant Valley Route 209 near LANE NEAR THE Pleasant Valley <--
3 High School in BRODHEADSVILLE, Monroe County, as the Schyler <--
4 Herman Memorial Roundabout.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Schyler Herman Memorial Roundabout.
8 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
9 follows:
10 (1) Schyler Herman was born March 20, 2003, the daughter
11 of Michael and Sherrie Herman.
12 (2) In the fall of 2017, Ms. Herman was a freshman at
13 Pleasant Valley High School and played varsity soccer as a
14 goalkeeper for Pleasant Valley High School and for Players
15 Development Academy Crew.
16 (3) After contact with another player left more serious
17 bruises than expected, Ms. Herman went to the emergency room
18 where she was diagnosed with leukemia and transferred to The
19 Children's Hospital in Philadelphia for immediate treatment.
 1 (4) On October 2, 2017, Ms. Herman was diagnosed with
2 pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, the most common type of
3 leukemia in children, according to the National Institutes of
4 Health.
5 (5) Following her diagnosis, Ms. Herman's teammates,
6 friends, classmates, coaches and community rallied around
7 her, organizing fundraisers and activities to show support.
8 (6) After her diagnosis, Ms. Herman valiantly fought the
9 cancer, enduring many treatments which included chemotherapy.
10 (7) During treatment, her leukemia mutated from Acute
11 Lymphoblastic Leukemia to a more aggressive form, Acute
12 Myeloid Leukemia.
13 (8) Two days after Ms. Herman suffered a brain bleed due
14 to the Acute Myeloid Leukemia, she passed away on October 31,
15 2018, while laying in her mother's arms.
16 (9) To honor and preserve her memory, Ms. Herman's
17 parents established a charity to fund pediatric cancer
18 research.
19 (10) Schyler Herman is a hero in the fight against
20 pediatric cancer and the Schyler Herman Memorial Roundabout
21 designation is in her honor.
22 (b) Designation.--The roundabout located on CONNECTING U.S. <--
23 ROUTE 209 AND Pleasant Valley Route 209 near LANE NEAR THE <--
24 Pleasant Valley High School in BRODHEADSVILLE, Monroe County, is <--
25 designated the Schyler Herman Memorial Roundabout.
26 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
27 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the roundabout
28 to traffic in both directions on ON THE MAJOR APPROACHES TO the <--
29 roundabout.
30 Section 2. Effective date.

1 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
