In the near future, I will be introducing legislation allowing additional highly-qualified individuals to obtain their Career and Technical Instructional I Certificate, who currently may not be able to due to restrictive program requirements and instructor certification hoops.

There are an abundance of highly-skilled individuals in occupations that could provide instruction to students, but do not meet the Career and Technical Instructional I Certificate requirements.  This was first brought to my attention in regards to firefighter training, but applies to other industries throughout the Commonwealth as well.

Currently, an applicant is issued a Career and Technical Instructional I Certificate upon presenting evidence of 8,000 hours (equivalent to 4 years full-time) wage-earning experience in the occupational area to be taught and satisfactory achievement on the assessment of basic skills.

This legislation, crafted in partnership with County Career Centers, would offer a simple solution to allow these schools better support their students, communities and the entire Commonwealth, by allowing instructors to be issued a Career and Technical Instructional I Certificate if they meet one of the following: I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important legislation that will allow Career and Technical Centers to be responsive to both our industry’s and the Commonwealth’s needs.
