Soon, I will be re-introducing SB 705 which defines telemedicine, offers guidelines outlining who can provide telemedicine services, and will provide clarity around insurance company reimbursement for these services. Although the legislation requires payments for telemedicine services, those payments will be established between the provider and the insurer.
Telemedicine is the remote delivery of health care services and medical information using telecommunications technology. Telemedicine is a significant component of health care that saw rapid growth and heavy usage during the COVID- 19 pandemic across the Commonwealth. With the use of telemedicine, specialists and other health care providers can expand their reach to patients. This would allow medical services to be provided to some of the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians who otherwise would not be able to receive these services due to various circumstances.
Cosponsors from last session included Senators Argall, Aument, Baker, Bartolotta, Costa, Haywood, Langerholc, Martin, Stefano, Street, J. Ward, Yaw.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation that will offer clarity to telemedicine services in the Commonwealth.
