At the onset of the pandemic, agencies at the federal and state level quickly waived regulations to provide safety and streamline care. While these were born out of necessity, some proved care could be delivered at a high level with less red tape. In particular, we’ve realized the capabilities of two-way video, remote technology.

As we address our care workforce shortages, it is incumbent on us to take lessons learned during the pandemic and apply them going forward. The Department of Labor estimates Pennsylvania will need 45,000 direct care workers in the next few years. To help address this issue, my legislation will make the hiring process easier by removing the requirement that face-to-face interviews are conducted in person. Allowing interviews to be conducted using two-way video, remote technology increases opportunities for candidates to interview while also maintaining the ability to see the person.
