This bill amends the existing malpractice insurance requirements for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in Oklahoma. It stipulates that APRNs, or their employers, must maintain malpractice insurance or demonstrate financial responsibility of at least One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) per occurrence and Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000.00) in total per year. The bill clarifies that this requirement applies solely to the APRN and does not extend to any supervising physician. Additionally, it specifies that APRNs employed by federal agencies with existing malpractice insurance are considered compliant while practicing under that employment.

The new legal language introduced in the bill provides further compliance provisions for APRNs employed by state agencies or facilities covered by The Governmental Tort Claims Act. These APRNs will also be deemed compliant with the malpractice insurance requirements while practicing under state employment. However, if they practice outside of this state employment, they must adhere to the original insurance requirements. The bill is set to take effect on November 1, 2026.
