This bill aims to enhance health insurance coverage for individuals diagnosed with epilepsy in Oklahoma. It mandates that all individual and group health insurance policies providing medical and surgical benefits must offer the same coverage to individuals with epilepsy as they do to those without the condition. Additionally, the bill prohibits insurers from terminating or refusing to renew coverage solely based on an individual's epilepsy diagnosis.
Furthermore, the bill requires that health insurance policies cover seizure prevention or protection devices, surgeries, or other medical procedures deemed medically necessary by a physician specializing in epilepsy treatment. This provision is intended to reduce the risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2026.
