This bill establishes a new legal provision in the Oklahoma Statutes that exempts governmental entities from liability if they have properly submitted legal notices, advertisements, or publications to newspapers and have met all statutory publication requirements and deadlines, but the newspaper fails to publish the notice correctly. This means that if a governmental entity fulfills its obligations but the newspaper does not, the entity will not be held responsible for any resulting issues related to publication deadlines.
Additionally, the bill allows for good faith electronic publication of legal notices, advertisements, or publications, which can be used alongside any other publication methods deemed feasible by the governmental entity to meet notice requirements. The new law is set to be codified as Section 116 of Title 25 and will take effect on November 1, 2026.
