This bill amends the state minimum salary schedule for certified personnel in Oklahoma public schools, changing the starting school year for implementation from 2025-2026 to 2026-2027. It removes specific minimum salary amounts and instead directs that certified personnel be compensated according to salary schedules adopted by each school district board of education. The bill also modifies the notification requirements regarding retirement benefits, allowing school districts to provide written notice to teachers if their salary would fall below the district's minimum salary schedule due to retirement benefits. Additionally, it updates the acceptance of teaching experience from out-of-state and out-of-country schools, and allows school district boards to credit more than five years of experience for salary schedule purposes.
Furthermore, the bill eliminates provisions that mandated salary increases for certain instructional employees and ensures that the new provisions cannot be used to reduce State Aid allocated to school districts. It also clarifies that teachers who have entered into post-retirement employment while receiving retirement benefits will be subject to specific provisions. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and includes an emergency clause for immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
