House Bill No. 3467 amends existing legislation regarding maternity leave for certain education employees in Oklahoma. The bill entitles full-time employees of public school districts, technology center school districts, the State Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Department of Corrections, and the Office of Juvenile Affairs to six weeks of paid maternity leave following the birth or adoption of a child under four years of age. The leave must be used immediately after the birth or adoption, and employees can utilize accrued sick leave to extend their maternity leave beyond the initial six weeks, provided they have sufficient sick leave available.
Additionally, the bill clarifies that the paid maternity leave is in addition to any sick leave due to pregnancy and ensures that employees taking maternity leave will not lose any compensation or benefits. It also mandates that the Legislature appropriates adequate funding for the Public School Paid Maternity Leave Revolving Fund to support this initiative. If sufficient funding is not provided, the State Board of Education is required to allocate funds from its budget to cover the costs of paid maternity leave. The bill is set to take effect on November 1, 2026.
