This bill establishes new requirements for individuals applying to become foster parents in Oklahoma, codified as Section 1-7-111.1 of Title 10A. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, lawfully reside in the U.S., maintain healthy relationships, manage their financial needs independently, and earn at least 101% of the Federal Poverty Level for their household size. Additionally, they must provide verification of good physical and mental health for all household members, submit two letters of recommendation, maintain a clean and safe home environment, and demonstrate competencies in nurturing and protecting children, among other responsibilities.
The bill also introduces penalties for individuals who willfully submit false or fraudulent applications or information. Such actions can result in felony charges, with potential fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, imprisonment for one to five years, or both. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2026.
