This bill establishes a new legal framework in Oklahoma for addressing the intentional distribution of false news by news media outlets. It defines key terms such as "news media outlet" and "social media," and outlines that any outlet that knowingly and maliciously disseminates false information with the intent to mislead or promote a specific political agenda will be liable for damages. However, there is an exception for content shared solely for satire or parody. The Attorney General is mandated to file civil actions on behalf of Oklahoma citizens against such outlets, with provisions for actual and punitive damages, including a minimum of $500 per false report.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that law enforcement agencies and their employees are exempt from liability when investigating Internet crimes, and it protects interactive computer services from being held liable for content created by others. The remedies provided under this new section are cumulative, meaning they can be pursued alongside other legal remedies. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2026.
