House Bill No. 3062 amends 20 O.S. 2021, Section 129, to extend the authority to carry firearms to retired municipal judges, in addition to current provisions for district judges and retired district judges. The bill stipulates that retired municipal judges who have served for a cumulative total of twenty years and are certified by the Oklahoma Municipal Judges Association may carry firearms for personal protection throughout the state, with the exception of district court premises. Furthermore, it clarifies that retired district judges, district attorneys, and assistant district attorneys who are already authorized to carry firearms are exempt from these new provisions.
Additionally, the bill allows the chief judge of the district court to issue written orders permitting municipal judges to carry firearms within the district court while serving as chief judge. The effective date for this legislation is set for November 1, 2026.
