The bill amends Section 353.30 of the Oklahoma Pharmacy Practice Act to enhance the role of pharmacists in providing certain healthcare services. It authorizes pharmacists to dispense self-administered hormonal contraceptives without requiring a prescription, under a protocol to be established by the State Board of Pharmacy by January 1, 2027. Additionally, the bill mandates the State Board of Pharmacy to develop permanent rules regarding training requirements and the administration of immunizations and therapeutic injections, in consultation with relevant medical boards.
The bill also updates existing statutory language and clarifies that pharmacists who complete an approved training course may administer therapeutic injections and immunizations without a patient-specific prescription. The effective date for this act is set for November 1, 2026.
