This bill mandates that all children in Oklahoma be screened for type 1 diabetes by their primary health care provider at the ages of five and twelve during routine visits. The screenings must adhere to accepted medical practices and rules set forth by the State Commissioner of Health. Additionally, the bill stipulates that these screenings will be reimbursable under the state Medicaid program, contingent upon obtaining any necessary federal approvals.
Furthermore, the State Department of Health is directed to pursue grants and funding opportunities to support these pediatric screenings. The bill also requires the State Commissioner of Health and the Oklahoma Health Care Authority Board to establish rules for the implementation of the screening and reimbursement provisions. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2026.
